Car parts supplier IAC is aiming to open a new production facility in Přeštice, in the Czech Republic’s eastern part. The new factory is to produce a wide range of plastic car parts, and it will be operated by a workforce of about 500, local news agency ČTK reported. 21 October 2014

Germany based robotics maker, Reis, a division of Kuka as of this year, has developed a system for the mass production of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) sports cars. Its client, Advanced Composite Engineering (ACE), a former division of aircraft makers EADS/Dornier, will be using robots to bolt together CFRP components. 15 October 2014
Precision French moulder AdduXi Group is opening its first factory outside of its home country — in a Detroit suburb — and the top local executive said the time is right, as the US automotive industry is on a roll. 15 October 2014
German mould-maker Hofmann has produced the mould for a novel LED light used in Porsche’s Macan compact SUV. The rear lighting system, developed by Hella, uses “light-strips” for guiding LED light. 14 October 2014
Pioneering packaging injection molder Europlast SA de CV, a 50-50 joint venture between Mexico’s Weiss and Italy’s Garlatti de Mozzi families, is to establish a mould making operation in the city of Querétaro, 130 miles northwest of Mexico City, at a cost of $2.5m (€1.96m). 9 October 2014
Luxembourg-based company International Automotive Components (IAC) has celebrated the official opening of its European headquarters in Düsseldorf, Germany. 8 October 2014
First prize in the products and applications category in the 2014 AVK Federation of Reinforced Plastics Innovation awards went to the IVW composites institute in Kaiserslautern, Germany. This was for its development of so-called “crash muffins” – glass fibre reinforced thermoplastics crash absorbers in the shape of a traditional pleated paper muffin cup. IVW says it is seeking serial production possibilities for the muffin technology. 7 October 2014
Automotive supplier Mann + Hummel USA has opened a new manufacturing facility in Portage, Michigan, US. The 20,400 square metre renovated plant, formerly owned by Mueller Plastics, will produce some injection moulded parts and also house assembly and distribution, said Kurk Wilks, vice president and general manager for MHUS. 6 October 2014
Biaxially oriented PP film maker Treofan has completed a further upgrade of its extrusion line for TreoPore battery separator film at its facility in Neunkirchen, Germany. The upgrade allows production runs at a capacity “beyond the initial design of 20 million square meters annually”, said Treofan in a statement. 3 October 2014
Polish plastic parts maker Izo-Blok has unveiled plans to launch a new production facility in Chorzów, in southern Poland. The plant is to be opened by the end of this year, company representatives told local news agency PAP. 2 October 2014
Benecke-Kaliko is set to build its second Chinese facility in Changzhou, to produce surface materials for automotive interiors. The German company, which is a subsidiary of ContiTech, said the investment would be almost €40m for the first phase of the expansion, making it the largest investment in the company’s history. 1 October 2014
