Automotive injection moulder Mecaplast increased turnover by 4% to €679m in 2014, as it reaped the benefits from a strategic programme that started in 2013. There was also a 22% improvement in Ebitda to €47.1m (excluding non-recurring items) at the group, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The group is downsizing in Monaco, but expanding internationally. 26 March 2015
At the start of this year, plastics processors looked set to enjoy a period of lower polymer prices, as the sharp fall in crude oil prices dragged down the cost of key feedstocks. Germany-based seating systems and automotive component producer Grammer has announced its annual sales for 2014 of €1.36bn up 7% from €1.27bn in 2013. It is the fourth year in a row the company has seen record annual sales. The company’s Automotive Division achieved a 12% increase in sales to around €910m in 2014 from €813m in 2013. 5 March 2015
German manufacturer INA has unveiled plans to establish a new production facility in Svitavy, the Czech Republic. 2 March 2015
German technical moulder Gealan Formteile is already planning to expand its injection moulding capacity at the components plant in Hungary it launched less than a year ago. Gealan, based in Oberkotzau, Germany, invested around €2m in a project to establish the new automotive components and household products operation in Székesfehérvár that only started up last summer. 27 February 2015
Three of the six new plants that automotive moulder Plastic Omnium plans this year will be in China, part of a broader push it’s making in Asia, where it will locate 12 of the 20 new facilities in its near-term investment plans. The company said that 2014 sales in its automotive division rose 4.9% to €4.88bn, with profit up 8.6% to €401.7m. While European auto sales revenue grew 7.4%, and it said performance in the UK and Germany was “excellent,” much of its capital investment is targeting Asia, where it projects China’s vehicle market to grow 7.1% in 2015 to 23.2 million units. 27 February 2015
Swedish auto safety components supplier Autoliv could double output at its vehicle seatbelt plant in Sopronkövesd in north western Hungary thanks to a planned €36m expansion plan there. 26 February 2015
France-based RocTool, an equipment manufacturer, has announced that it has signed a license agreement with Swedish automobile company Volvo Cars. 23 February 2015
Polish automotive parts maker Stomil Sanok is planning to invest more than PLN 20m (€4.8m) with the aim of expanding the product range of its plant in Sanok, in Poland’s southern region of Podkarpackie, reports local news agency PAP. 23 February 2015
The prototype StreetScooter C16 electric vehicle (EV) shown by Stratasys at the Euromold fair in November has demonstrated the potential for 3D printing large body panels, and showed the scope for more rapid car design and manufacture. 20 February 2015
