Daimler has launched new versions of its Smart ForTwo and ForFour city cars, which, in previous models, have made extensive use of plastics in exterior and interior parts. Development of the new Smart ForTwo and ForFour was a joint project between Daimler and Renault, whose Twingo city car shares the same platform as the Smart cars. The ForFour car will be made at Renault’s plant in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, and the ForTwo will continue production at Smart’s plant in Hambach, France. 18 July 2014

A robust automotive sector performance in Europe and Asia and booming business in the seating and lighting areas helped lift first quarter profits by almost 25% at Spanish component maker Grupo Antolin. Group operating profit rose by 52% to €45.2m while its EBITDA result improved by 24.9% to reach €68.2m for the first three months of 2014. 16 July 2014
German cable manufacturer Leoni AG is planning to add new products and expand the output capacity at its production facility in Trenčin, in Slovakia’s western part. 15 July 2014
US manufacturer 3M has announced plans to add new products at its plant in Wrocław, in south-western Poland. The company is aiming to launch production of a wide range of plastic components which will be mainly intended for the automotive industry. 14 July 2014
German automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen is in talks to acquire Livonia, Michigan, US-based TRW Automotive Holdings, Bloomberg reports. 11 July 2014
French car parts manufacturer, Valeo, is planning to increase automotive wiper output at its production facility in Skawina, in Poland’s southern Małopolskie region.  10 July 2014
German industrial parts moulder Coko-Werk International is set to grow production capacity in Poland once again, with a plan to invest more than €5.31m at its plant in Konstantynów just outside Łódź. 8 July 2014
Lanxess, a specialty chemicals company, has started operation at its new plant for polyamide plastics in Antwerp, Belgium. 4 July 2014
South Korea-based Halla Visteon Climate Control (HVCC) has announced that it is to acquire the Thermal and Emissions product line of Cooper-Standard Automotive, a subsidiary of Cooper-Standard Holdings, for $46m (€34m) cash. 3 July 2014
Boryszew, the Polish auto components manufacturer, is reported to be a step closer to launching parts production in Mexico. 3 July 2014
