TRW Automotive Holdings, in a supply chain mega-deal that has been in the works since mid-July, said it has agreed to be acquired by German supplier ZF Friedrichshafen for $13.5bn (€10.4bn) in cash. The transaction, for $105.60 per share, will create the world's second-largest auto supplier with pro forma combined revenue of about €30bn and 138,000 employees TRW and ZF said. 16 September 2014

German automotive components manufacturer Behr-Hella Thermocontrol (BHTC) is set to launch a new €22m vehicle air-conditioning systems plant in Bulgaria this month. The Lippstadt, Germany-based company has been constructing its new 70,000 square metre facility in the Bozhurishte Economic Zone close to the Bulgarian capital Sofia. 12 September 2014

Cooper Standard Holdings has agreed to buy an additional 47.5% of Huayu-Cooper Standard Sealing Systems, its joint venture with Huayu Automotive Systems, and become the 95% equity owner of the business. 5 September 2014
Johnson Controls has revealed the results of its “Stuff in Cars” global study, which was in response to the ever growing importance of automotive interior design and the need for quality storage solutions. The study found that people felt that the most important item to stow in a location that is in reach of the driver, secured and easily accessible while driving were sunglasses. 26 August 2014
Possehl Group’s acquisition of TPS Technical Plastic Systems will bring together companies which specialise in the manufacture of hybrid plastic-metal components for the automotive industry. Possehl Electronics Deutschland, based in Niefern-Öschelbronn near Pforzheim, is acquiring TPS from DT Holding for an undisclosed amount. 21 August 2014
Germany-based Grammer, a seating systems and automotive component producer, has reported increased sales for the first half of 2014. 20 August 2014
South Korean manufacturer Youngsan Glonet Corp. has announced plans to set up a new production facility in northern Slovakia. The designed investment is to create about 750 new jobs, reports local news agency CTK. 20 August 2014
German automotive supplier Aunde Group has signed a deal to acquire local car parts manufacturer Fehrer. The acquisition is expected to be completed in September, once the contract is approved by Germany's antitrust watchdog Bundeskartellamt. 18 August 2014
Japanese materials firm Mitsubishi Rayon Co. Ltd. (MRC) has acquired a majority stake in Wethje Holding, a German producer of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP) for the auto market.

Nissan North America is pulling back from a strategy of buying parts from low-cost countries and is now encouraging suppliers to locate near its US assembly plants instead. 8 August 2014
