A number of Sidel customers, suppliers and key partners have recently been the target of Internet-based fraud attempts, said the plastics drinks packaging company. “They received fake emails or phone calls from so-called Sidel employees, requesting or providing business sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, banking details and/or invoice information with the objective of using this information to divert payments from the pre-agreed payment methods,” the company said in a statement.

A new blow moulding and filling technology called LiquiForm has been announced that uses pressurised consumable liquid instead of compressed air to form plastic containers. By combining the bottle forming and filling processes into one step, this technology eliminates numerous manufacturing steps, significantly reducing cost and waste, says the LiquiForm Group.

The German plastics processing industry yet again set a new record in 2013 as turnover grew by 3% to €57.6bn, exceeding modest 0.5% growth in 2012. The GKV trade association said activity in December exceeded expectations and it is forecasting faster growth of 4-5% in 2014.

Plastipak Packaging has emerged as the successful bidder for the US assets of blow moulder Constar International Holdings. US-based Plastipak will pay $102.45m (€75.17m) for Constar's assets, according to an asset purchase agreement.
