Germany head-quartered company Buse Gastek has announced it is merging its business divisions for CO2 production, recovery plant construction and dry ice technology with the Swiss company Asco Carbon Dioxide.

Switzerland-based Ineos Compounds and Swindon, UK-based Doeflex Compounding have completed the merger of their respective compounding operations. Proposals to combine the two operations were first revealed in May this year.

Brussels-based chemical company Solvay has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Ryton PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) business from US-based Chevron Phillips Chemical Company for $220m (€167.3m). Ryton PPS is strong in the automotive sector, replacing metal parts to make cars lighter and more energy efficient, says Solvay.

Akron, Ohio, US-based A. Schulman, a supplier of high-performance plastic compounds and resins, said it has acquired a company near Melbourne, Australia, for $6.7m (€5.1m) in cash. The acquired company, Compco, makes plastic compounds and products including cross-linked high density polyethylene, masterbatches and custom performance colours.

Ineos has moved into UK shale exploration with the purchase of BG Group’s 51% share of the shale section of a joint Petroleum Exploration and Development Licence (PEDL). The remaining 49% is owned by exploration company Dart Energy. No figures were disclosed.

A Central European company is cashing in on today’s renewed global fashion for collecting vinyl music records. Disc and packaging manufacturer GZ Media a.s. of Loděnice in the Czech Republic broke its own production record last year managing to press more than 10 million vinyl discs during 2013.
