Germany’s Messe Düsseldorf, the largest overseas partner of the Plastindia show, has given its support to the last-minute move of Plastindia to a new convention center in Gujarat, but the German group has made it clear it would rather not have to shift locations.

Swedish polymers group Hexpol is to acquire the rubber compounding division of Vigar Group, the Spain based plastics and rubber compounder and finished products maker, including a plant in Germany. The €19m deal to purchase the business from Vigar’s founding family is due to be completed, subject to approvals, by year end.

Switzerland-based Ineos Compounds and Swindon, UK-based Doeflex Compounding have completed the merger of their respective compounding operations. Proposals to combine the two operations were first revealed in May this year.

Brussels-based chemical company Solvay has announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Ryton PPS (polyphenylene sulphide) business from US-based Chevron Phillips Chemical Company for $220m (€167.3m). Ryton PPS is strong in the automotive sector, replacing metal parts to make cars lighter and more energy efficient, says Solvay.

Akron, Ohio, US-based A. Schulman, a supplier of high-performance plastic compounds and resins, said it has acquired a company near Melbourne, Australia, for $6.7m (€5.1m) in cash. The acquired company, Compco, makes plastic compounds and products including cross-linked high density polyethylene, masterbatches and custom performance colours.

Belgium-based PET preform and bottle manufacturer, Resilux, has announced that its turnover decreased for the first half of 2014 by 3.3% to €147.7m from €152.8m for the same period in 2013.

Ineos has moved into UK shale exploration with the purchase of BG Group’s 51% share of the shale section of a joint Petroleum Exploration and Development Licence (PEDL). The remaining 49% is owned by exploration company Dart Energy. No figures were disclosed.
