There have been positive long-term economic and environmental benefits from an energy modernisation project in houses at BASF’s home base in Ludwigshafen, Germany, according to a study. 12 November 2014
Aimplas, the Technological Institute of Plastics located in Valencia, Spain, has helped with the construction of a new composite lighthouse in the city, which will highlight the use of composites in the construction industry. The lighthouse consists of carbon fibre several-centimetres-thick tubular profiles support a set of fibreglass floors slabs and their bracings. 4 November 2014
By the end of this year, Polish pipe and cable producer Radpol is aiming to invest a total of PLN 13.1m (€3.1m) to increase the output capacity and modernise the equipment of the firm’s three production facilities in Poland.  3 November 2014

Plastic pipe companies Radius Systems in the UK and KE Kelit in Austria have formed a joint venture. Under the agreement, Radius is taking a majority stake in Radius-Kelit, a new joint enterprise bringing together the companies’ district heating businesses. 1 October 2014
Turkish PVC window manufacturer Proline has unveiled plans to set up a new production facility in Macedonia. The investment is estimated to be worth about €3m, the Macedonian government said in a statement. 25 September 2014
Russian construction materials maker TechnoNicol Corp has strengthened its position in Western Europe with the acquisition of an Italian insulation and waterproofing producer, Italiana Membrane. 24 September 2014
Polish PVC window producer AIB has unveiled plans to launch a new production facility in Czerwionka-Leszczyny, in Poland’s south-western part. 23 September 2014
Bulgarian cable maker Zavod Location Mezdra has unveiled plans to expand the output of its production facility in Mezdra, in the country’s north-eastern part. As part of the planned expansion, the cable producer is aiming to take on about 800 new employees at the factory, the state-run foreign investment agency InvestBulgaria said in a statement. 19 September 2014
Brazil-based petrochemicals and biopolymer producer Braskem has developed a new polyethylene. Intended for pipes and water mains applications, it was developed at the company’s technology and innovation centre in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul.  9 September 2014
Polish PVC window maker Fakro has unveiled plans to shift production from some of its plants in Ukraine to Russia. Ryszard Florek, the company's chief executive and founder, said that the ongoing crisis in Ukraine is undermining the firm's economic performance. 8 September 2014
In this feature James Snodgrass talks to the Welsh licensee of the Weholite and WehoPanel technologies about how HDPE is replacing concrete in sewerage infrastructure in the UK and Norway. Extruded HDPE pipe is increasingly used as a replacement for traditional materials in infrastructure projects. But now even sewerage structures, which traditionally would be built from precast concrete, are being made from extruded polymer. 1 September 2014
Russian construction products manufacturer TechnoNicol Corporation plans to launch a new plant to produce insulation materials including extruded polystyrene (XPS) in Kazakhstan. The new €12.5m facility, to be established in the Karaganda region of central Kazakhstan, is scheduled to begin producing XPS in 2016. 29 August 2014
