On the K 2013 stand of Leonhard Kurz Stiftung, the German company and its subsidiary PolyIC showed a centre console demonstrator that can be injection moulded with its decorative and touch functions in one operation. The companies used an Engel Duo 400 to produce the front panel of the curved console with a high gloss surface and with two separate touch functions: touchkeys, slides and a wheel in the upper area of the console, and a touchpad in the lower area.

Taiwan’s Ju Teng International, a major manufacturer of laptop casings, is investing at least $10m (€7m) in China to set up what it says will be the largest factory in the world for high-volume plastic-fibre composite smartphone and tablet covers. The facility will have more than 100 rapid moulding production lines from French equipment maker RocTool, with the goal of producing 1 million composite thermoplastic and glass or carbon fibre parts per month when fully operational.
