Italian auxiliary equipment manufacturer Moretto has opened its first US operation, in Columbus, Ohio, to handle sales, service and spare parts. Paolo Gasparotto, business development manager, said the 15,000-square-foot facility opened in October to cover the US and Canada. 15 December 2014
The Mexican market for flexible and rigid packaging machinery is growing at a rate of 4 to 6 percent a year, according to Steffen Sieber, senior sales manager of Brückner Maschinenbau, of Siegsdorf, Germany. 11 December 2014
Testing equipment company Instron, based in the US, has combined its previously independent German subsidiaries, Instron Deutschland and Instron Structural Testing Systems, into one organization, operating as Instron GmbH. 10 December 2014
Global sales of plastics and rubber machinery are forecast to increase by an average of 3% per year in the period from 2014 to 2016, according to Germany’s VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association. The forecast comes in a trend report commissioned for the first time by VDMA which also indicates EU-based machinery producers are expected to see sales fall by 2% in 2014, with a return to growth of 2% predicted for 2015. 8 December 2014
The government of Gujarat – the power base of new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi – pressured the plastics industry to move its Plastindia show from its longtime home in New Delhi to Gujarat, according to lawsuits. The accusation is contained in lawsuits filed by three exhibitors angry at the organizers’ decision to move the event, just a few months before its February opening, to a new trade fair complex that workers are still racing to finish – and that some believe won’t be ready in time. 8 December 2014

Germany-based Ettlinger, maker of melt filters and injection moulding machines, has announced that it is expanding its sales network with new partners in Southern and Eastern Europe as well as in Asia. 5 December 2014
Extrusion machinery manufacturer Battenfeld-Cincinnati has announced that Gerold Schley is to be the group’s new president and chief executive from 1 January 2015. Schley steps up to the post following the resignation of Jürgen Arnold, whose shoes were temporarily filled by the company’s finance chief Michael von Cappeln. 5 December 2014
Thermoforming machinery manufacturer Illig received more than 250 visitors to its open house, which took place at its facility in Heilbronn, Germany on 29 and 30 October. Participants from across Europe heard presentations and saw demonstrations of Illig’s technology, such as automatic pressure forming machines of the RDKP series for separate forming and punching, as well as the RDK series for combined forming-punching operation. 24 November 2014
