North American compounding leader PolyOne posted record adjusted earnings per share in 2014, even as the firm’s sales saw modest growth and its overall profit declined. Full-year sales at Avon Lake, Ohio, US-based PolyOne grew 2% to more than $3.8bn (€3.36bn), while adjusted EPS grew almost 40% to $1.80 — the highest level in the firm’s 15-year history.

Global sales of plastics and rubber machinery are forecast to increase by an average of 3% per year in the period from 2014 to 2016, according to Germany’s VDMA Plastics and Rubber Machinery Association. The forecast comes in a trend report commissioned for the first time by VDMA which also indicates EU-based machinery producers are expected to see sales fall by 2% in 2014, with a return to growth of 2% predicted for 2015.
