The Brussels-based European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has reported in its ‘Chemicals Trend Report’ that European chemical output only grew by 0.2% in 2014, whilst sales were down 1.1% on the previous year. For 2014 net exports of EU chemicals reached €44.1bn but were markedly below the record €48.2bn achieved in 2013. 16 April 2015

A difficult mix of waste plastic film is being reprocessed into high quality film products by Poligroup in Bulgaria thanks to technology from Erema and Herbold Meckesheim. Poligroup uses the mixed waste to produce films at its facility near Plovdiv which, in part, have thicknesses of around 30 µm. 13 April 2015

Leading Polish petrochemicals producer Grupa Azoty has announced plans to construct a major new 400,000 tpa plant in northern Poland to manufacture propylene through propane dehydrogenation (PDH) by 2019. In its €424m project, the biggest in Azoty’s history, the group not only intends to build the propylene plant but also install power generating units at the chosen site in the city of Police.  13 April 2015
