Emerald Kalama Chemical plans to expand at its Rotterdam, the Netherlands, plant to boost capacity for benzoic acid and benzaldehyde. 30 July 2015
The global market for elastomers was worth $21.52bn (€19.67bn) in 2014 and is expected to grow to $34.73bn (€31.75bn) in 2021 with growth being led by thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), according to Frost & Sullivan (F&S) data. 29 July 2015
Belgium-headquartered chemicals giant Solvay has announced plans to buy US composite materials firm Cytec in a $5.5bn (€5bn) deal. Solvay said it hoped the deal would push the company to become the world's second largest player in aerospace composite materials. 29 July 2015

Polish plastic panel maker Gekoplast has decided to expand the output capacity of its plant in Krupski Młyn, in the country’s southern part, and ordered a new production line worth PLN 7m (€1.7m) according to Piotr Górowski, the company’s chief executive. 27 July 2015
Chemicals giant BASF has seen sales rise 3% in the first-half of the year, boosted in part by the positive effects of currency translations. Half-year revenue at the German firm was €39.1bn, while sales in the second quarter grew by 3% to €19.1bn compared with the same period last year. 27 July 2015
Russian oil and chemicals producer Lukoil Group is planning to expand its production of acrylonitrile at its Saratovorgsintez operation in the south western Russian city of Saratov. 24 July 2015
Dow Chemical has wrapped up a first half in which profit rose even as sales fell. Midland, Michigan, US-based Dow reported second-quarter and first-half results on 23 July. Overall company sales for the half fell 14% vs. the first half of 2014 to less than $25.3bn (€23.1bn), while profit jumped by one-third to more than $2.7bn (€2.4bn).

Brazilian plastics maker Braskem will hold an extraordinary general meeting on 4 August to appoint a new chairman for its board of directors, following the 20 July indictment of current chairman Marcelo Odebrecht for alleged involvement in a corruption scheme in state-run oil company Petroleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras. Braskem confirmed to PNE's sister publication Plastics News that Newton de Souza, who is serving as interim CEO in construction company Odebrecht, will become chairman of Braskem’s board. 22 July 2015
Germany-based PolymersNet which specialises in systems for the manufacture of long-fibre reinforced thermoplastics (LFT) using Pultrusion Technology, has been acquired by its German sales partner ProTec. The financial figure for the acquisition has not been disclosed. 21 July 2015
Chemicals giant Ineos and Chinese state-owned oil and petrochemical giant Sinopec are reportedly close to settling a dispute over patents related to the industrial chemical acrylonitrile. 21 July 2015
US-based global chemicals company Eastman Chemical Company has announced it is helping one of the largest cultural festivals in Europe, Gentse Feesten, to improve safety and sustainability with its Tritan copolyester material being used to make beer glasses for the event. 20 July 2015
