The Russian government opposes the introduction of excessive restrictions to limit the size of plastic beer bottles, said Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, as reported by local news site MRCplast.com.

German market research institute for packaging the GVM has found in a study that packaging made of plastics is practical, safe and more efficient, states German trade bodies IK, PlasticsEurope Deutschland and the BKV. The GVM’s study conducted for the BKV compared how packaging was made in Germany in 1991 and in 2013, finding that in 1991 3.715 million tonnes was used compared to 2.76 million tonnes of plastic in 2013.

Polish chemicals company ZCh Organika is planning to expand its production facility in Łódź, in Poland’s central region of Łódzkie, as part of an investment estimated to be worth between PLN 20m (€5m) and PLN 30m (€7.5m), reports local daily Dziennik Łódzki.

German coffee group Melitta plans to close its Cofresco flexible packaging operation in Minden, Germany and switch the household film, foil and bag and sack conversion capacity to Poland. As part of a far reaching group reorganisation and consolidation programme, Melitta said it will concentrate its garbage bag business on its Cofresco division and shift the Minden work to a Polish sister plant at Brodnica by autumn 2017.

Romania-based plastic packaging maker Greiner Packaing s.r.l. has unveiled plans to expand its sales by about 5% this year to some €38m as a result of the increased demand for its products, reports local business daily Ziarul Financiar.

Greiner, the Austria-based plastic packaging and foams producer, has announced that sales in its 2014 fiscal year were 2% higher at €1.32bn. "Strategic alignment with our core competencies and expansion into new markets are our engine for growth," said CEO Axel Kühner. Most of Greiner’s divisions grew according to plan, with the exception of Greiner Tool.Tec, which faced difficult market conditions.
