Polish plastic film producer Ergis Group is planning to launch a second PET film production line, and acquire a new line for plastic packaging for its Plexergis subsidiary in Nowy Sącz, in southern Poland, according to Tadeusz Nowicki, the group's chief executive.  1 September 2014
Vienna, Austria-based packaging company, Constantia Flexibles, has announced that its sales have grown by more than 5% to €848.4m for the first half of 2014, rising from €803.4m for the same period in 2013. The company reports EBITDA for the first six months of 2014 rose by 9.3% to €123.5m. 28 August 2014
Sonoco Products’s acquisition of Weidenhammer Packaging Group of Germany includes plastic packaging technology that the company is targeting for growth in the United States. The deal is worth $383m (€290m) and includes Weidenhammer Plastic Packaging with a plant in Zwenkau, Germany.  26 August 2014
Burnley’s flexographic print specialist, Learoyd Packaging, has been sold to US-based Coveris the world’s sixth largest packaging company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. 22 August 2014
Promens, the Icelandic packaging and rotational moulding group, is planning to restructure its packaging operations in Germany with the closure of two blow moulding plants next year. The group’s German subsidiary announced it intends to shut down its Unterrieden bottle blow moulding facility at Witzenhausen in the Hesse region in June 2015, according to the regional newspaper HNA. 22 August 2014
Faerch Plast, one of Europe’s leading producers of plastic containers for the food industry, is set to double production capacity in the UK by early 2015 following the planned installation of an additional extrusion line and associated thermoformers at its Durham-based manufacturing facility. 21 August 2014
PVC pipe and specialty chemicals maker Mexichem SAB de CV said Monday it has agreed to buy Dura-Line, a prominent manufacturer of high density polyethylene conduit, duct and pressure pipe for telecommunications and data communications, from CHS Capital for $630m (€472m). 19 August 2014

A Central European company is cashing in on today’s renewed global fashion for collecting vinyl music records. Disc and packaging manufacturer GZ Media a.s. of Loděnice in the Czech Republic broke its own production record last year managing to press more than 10 million vinyl discs during 2013. 14 August 2014
A number of Sidel customers, suppliers and key partners have recently been the target of Internet-based fraud attempts, said the plastics drinks packaging company. “They received fake emails or phone calls from so-called Sidel employees, requesting or providing business sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, banking details and/or invoice information with the objective of using this information to divert payments from the pre-agreed payment methods,” the company said in a statement. 11 August 2014
Germany-based packager Weidenhammer has produced a two-chamber container for Zott’s range of Monte desserts. The two-cup chamber system with folding seam keeps the Monte cream – a combination of creamy milk, chocolate and hazelnuts – and fruit or crispy ingredients separate until they are mixed before eating.  7 August 2014
More packaging applications are appearing for clear PP using Milliken’s Ultra Clear additive, the US company told James Snodgrass at Interpack... What a difference a K makes. Milliken, the US-based specialty chemical company first introduced its Ultra Clear PP additive in 2007. But it took last year’s K show in Germany to show the market what it could do. 7 August 2014

French packaging manufacturer PSB Industries has signed an agreement to acquire C+N Packaging, which specializes in plastic closures for fragrance, cosmetics and other consumer packaging. 1 August 2014
