Italy-based materials company Novamont has announced that its 50/50 joint venture with Versalis, Novamont and Matrìca, has signed a deal with Coldiretti and Consorzi Agrari d’Italia, for the creation of innovative agro-industrial chains to create short-chain biolubricants and bioplastics.

The European Commission has withdrawn its Circular Economy initiative from its 2015 work programme, which it will “replace by a new, more ambitious proposal by end 2015”. The Commission revealed the Circular Economy package, which was launched in July, was one of 80 proposals it has axed from its 2015 programme, with its work plans now focused on 23 initiatives.

Europe is to get its first pan-European exhibition and conference aimed at the region’s plastics recycling industry next year. The Plastics Recycling Show Europe (PRSE), organised by Crain Communications which publishes European Plastics News, will take place at the Tour & Taxis venue in Brussels on 25 and 26 November 2015. The event is supported by industry body Plastics Recyclers Europe, which also plans to hold its annual working group meetings at PRSE.

Representatives of the European Parliament and the European Union’s (EU) Council of Ministers agreed on a provisional deal last night (17 November) to reduce the use of lightweight plastic bags in the EU. However, the agreement has to be confirmed in unanimity by EU member states’ top diplomats meeting in the so-called ‘Coreper’ committee on Friday, 21 November.

The UK government has been accused of trying to block agreement over European Union (EU) legislation curbing lightweight plastic bags usage to favour a UK plastics company with close links to David Cameron's Conservative Party.
