Connector makers go halogen-free

The resin maker says Meritec is producing connectors in Vectra LCP, a liquid crystalline polymer that is inherently flame retardant so requires no flame retardant additives. The material can withstand temperatures of up to 340°C so is also suitable for lead-free soldering, says the firm.

Molex is making connectors from Celanex XFR, says Ticona. This non-halogenated resin eliminates risk of corrosion of contacts or conductors and, in the event of a fire, will not release toxic gases, says the company.
