MonoSol is investing $20m in expanding sites in the US and Europe, hoping to increase capacity for water soluble film manufacturing by 20% next year.
“We are primarily investing at our LaPorte Indiana facility [in the US[,” the company told European Plastics News. “However, process improvements and expansions are underway at all three of our global manufacturing sites.”
The company also has plants in Merrillville, the US, and Hartlebury in the UK.
Monosol says it will use the added capacity to develop water soluble films and the new TerraLoc dust abatement technology. The move is being driven by growth in markets such as unit dose packaging and composite fabricating, says the firm.
The company is currently pulling out of the recession as demand for its products increased sharply in June. Even though it doesn’t release sales and profit figures it says demand “has been steady and continues to show strong potential in the future”.
