Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) announced a new JV with India’s Malibu Plastica that will supply polycarbonate sheet in the country.
Subject to regulatory approval, the JV will be called Bayer Malibu Polymers and will be based in Ahmedabad. Janak Parikh, former managing director of Maliby Plastica, will lead the group.
Frank Robarth, BMS spokesperson, says the JV will be operational by 1 January, 2010.
BMS hopes the alliance will allow it bring more of its products to the Indian market by leveraging Malibu’s production capacities and marketing expertise, while Malibu Plastica says it will “enable us to support our Indian customers along the value chain more intensively”.
BMS is based in Germany and has 8 polycarbonate sheet manufacturing plants worldwide, in Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico and the US.
Malibu Plastica is based in Ahemedabad and claims to be the first Indian company to produce polycarbonate sheets. It serves the country’s automotive, electronic, construction and outdoor advertising markets.
