Recent decisions by the Indian and Turkish governments to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese glass fibre products have prompted the European composites industry association EuCIA to warn of the potential damage that could be caused to the sector if the EC decides to follow suit.
According to the association, the Indian government has introduced a provisional 40.86% charge on some Chinese products while Turkey has set a level of 38%. Meanwhile, the EC’s own investigations into pricing of Chinese glass fibre products within its jurisdiction continues.
“As the voice of the European composites industry, EuCIA is strongly opposing any type of protectionist measures,” it said in a statement yesterday.
The association said that its members are already facing supply shortages for some grades and that any anti-dumping measures by the Commission will inevitably have an impact on its members.
European Plastics News understands from processors that supplies of chopped strand mat are very tight at present and that prices have risen dramatically in the past three months.
