AMI, the British market information firm, has produced new editions of its guides to the Swiss and Austrian injection moulding markets. It has found that the two markets have shown resilience despite general stagnation in the European economy.
The Swiss (Fifth Edition) and Austrian (Sixth Edition) injection moulding guides list the location an activities of the 235 injection moulding sites currently operating in Switzerland and the 187 currently operating in Austria.
In 2012 Austrian moulders processed 130,000 tonnes of polymer, 17% of Austria’s total thermoplastic consumption of 754,000 tonnes. During the same period Swiss moulders processed 145,000 tonnes of polymer, 28% of Switzerland’s total thermoplastic consumption of 512,000 tonnes.
Both countries serve particular niche markets. Swiss moulders are predominantly serving the electrical, technical and medical sectors; whilst a high proportion of Austrian moulders are supplying the automotive and electrical sectors.
Switzerland saw a 2% drop in the number of injection moulding sites, year on year, while Austria saw a small increase.
