This year’s winners of the long-running DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation will be announced at the DuPont Packaging Exchange, a virtual event held 25 May from 10 to 11am online.

Participants will be able to interact with the co-chairs of the Global Packaging Project: Roger Zellner, director of sustainability at Kraft Foods and Sonya Raja, head of packaging at Tesco.

The Global Packaging Project is a group formed by the Paris-based Consumer Goods Forum, a group that brings together CEOs and senior managers from 650 retailers, manufacturers, service providers and other stakeholders across 70 countries. The forum was created in June 2009 by the merger of CIES (Comité International d’Entreprises à Succursales) — The Food Business Forum, the Global Commerce Initiative and the Global CEO Forum.

Winners of the 22nd DuPont Awards were selected by an independent panel from 160 entries from around the world.

The first awards program was in 1986. The competition has recognized environmental achievements since 1989.

The contest honours materials, processing, technology and service achievements that demonstrate progress toward sustainability while also meeting important market requirements for enhanced performance such as improved freshness, convenience and shelf appeal. Entrants do not need to use DuPont materials in their products, processes or programs.

Jurors evaluate seven innovation factors: clean production; effective recovery; community/social benefit; enhanced performance; cost effective economics; responsible sourcing; and resource and energy optimization.

The DuPont Packaging Exchange will kick off with the announcement of the DuPont Awards by William Harvey, president of DuPont Packaging, followed by a presentation on the Global Packaging Project’s effort to foster common language on sustainability claims.

Participants will be able to post questions and receive responses from the Global Packaging Project speakers.
